Tampa Bay Lightning owner, Jeff Vinik, and Seattle-based Cascade Investment, controlled by Bill Gates, have partnered to create a live-work-play district centered around the Amalie Arena. In what could easily be a “billon-dollar” project, the Channel District will undergo significant changes, transitioning it into a “world-class” district.
The master plan will include office buildings, residential projects, a major parking garage, more entertainment venues and several other developments and redevelopments with the purpose of improving the way the area is connected. The team is also in talks with University of South Florida to establish a medical education complex in the district. Further details of the project will be disclosed in the coming weeks. The hotel is the slated to be the first structure in the project that should break ground in 2016. Read more at TBO.com.
